Bithell Series of Dissertations
Texts and Translations book series
The Bithell Series of Dissertations is an ongoing series of doctoral theses in German and Austrian Studies published by the Institute of Modern Languages Research. Volumes 14 to 41 in the series were joint publications with the MHRA, and details of those are given on this site. Since 2014 BSD has been published by IMLR alone, and IMLR holds the sole rights to volumes 1 to 13 and 42 onwards. For more on the series, and for titles not covered below, please see the BSD page at the IMLR website. Parent series. The jointly published BSD titles formed one strand of MHRA's broader Texts and Dissertations series. Titles were dual-numbered, so that for example T&D 68 is the same book as BSD 31. Proposals. All proposals for new titles should be directed to the IMLR. Review copies. Journals wishing to review books 14 to 41 in this series should please contact mail@mhra.org.uk to request copies. History. The Bithell series was founded in 1978 at the Institute of Germanic Studies, which later merged with the Institute of Romance Studies to become what is today the IMLR. Like the Bithell Memorial Lectures and the Bithell Prize, the series is named for the pioneering modern linguist Jethro Bithell, both a Francophile and a Germanist, who was active in the first half of the 20th century. |
