This edition intends to contribute to the better knowledge of the author of the first English epyllion as a man of his time, and to pinpoint the aspects of Scilla’s Metamorphosis (1589) that were later consolidated by Shakespeare (Venus and Adonis, 1593) and Marlowe (Hero and Leander, 1598) as defining traits of this genre.
