We have, for the first time, published our policy on environmental resources: Sustainability and the MHRA.

As an organisation which has no buildings of its own, and is not directly in the manufacturing business, or running big data centres, MHRA isn't at first sight the sort of body which needs to be working on net zero. But carbon isn't just a matter for primary industries, making scope 1 emissions, or for secondary industries putting together products whose components cause emissions elsewhere, which is scope 2. Every time we print or mail out a book, we're causing service organisations elsewhere in the economy to release a little more carbon. That's scope 3. But of course the atmosphere doesn't care what scope it is: carbon is carbon, and the short version of our policy is that we're trying to emit less of it.

There's a helpful explainer on scope 1, 2, and 3 carbon emissions at the UK National Grid website.
