Trends and Realities from UTREES
Gregory Walker, editor of UTREES, recently presented a paper, 'Doctoral Research in Russian and East European Studies: Trends and Realities from the UTREES Database', to a specialist conference of Slavonic librarians.
Drawing on data that stretches over the whole history of postgraduate research, as we now understand that term, UTREES runs from 1907 to the present day. This offers a unique perspective on how Slavonic studies have developed, and what its demographics have been and now are: while everyone working in the field will know some of the story from personal experience and folklore, Gregory's paper offers hard data. We therefore asked him to write the paper up for online publication here, and are now pleased to present it.
The paper is a roughly 200K download, in PDF form: click here to read.
