A new translation of Ingénue Saxancour

We are pleased to publish Mary Trouille's new translation of Rétif de la Bretonne's novel Ingénue Saxancour Ingénue Saxancour. Scandalizing Paris — which would have taken some doing, it being the late 1780s — this was a novel openly discussing an abusive marriage, and Rétif's social circle would have recognised the inspiration all too clearly. Rétif is not an easy novelist to categorise or pigeonhole (see his Wikipedia page for evidence of that): so it's all the better to have his work in English.
