Symons's Spiritual Adventures

We are pleased to announce publication of Arthur Symons's Spiritual Adventures, an edition in our Jewelled Tortoise series of decadent editions.

Edited with an Introduction and notes by Nicholas Freeman, the eight short stories which make up the Spiritual Adventures — Symons's only published work of fiction, dedicated, perhaps rather surprisingly, to Thomas Hardy — remain surprising and revelatory even today. The author's own personality and mental unease — only a few years later he suffered a breakdown — take a variety of disguises and are presented in exotic settings, but this is nevertheless an almost autobiographical work.
