Accessibility and the EU Accessibility Act 2025
The Association publishes books and articles in a variety of formats, with the electronic editions appearing primarily as PDFs. Improvements in publishing software mean that modern PDFs are much more accessible to blind and partially-sighted readers or others using text-to-speech software, and we hope that most readers who need to access our texts via screen-reading software will have no problem in doing so.
Like other publishers, we are conscious of our obligations under the EU Accessibility Act, which took effect in June 2025, and we would wish to make reasonable accommodations wherever possible in any case. We have been publishing since 1918, and we hope readers will appreciate that modern affordances can be difficult to provide for older publications, long out of print, which were set in moveable type in a pre-digital world.
Readers who do have accessibility issues with our publications are encouraged to contact us at accessibility@mhra.org.uk, letting us know what they are trying to access and what difficulties they are experiencing. Our online journal and book hosting platforms, Muse and JSTOR, may also be able to help.
