MHRA Texts and Dissertations
Texts and Translations book series
Between 1970 and 2015, the MHRA Texts and Dissertations published outstanding doctoral theses, with the emphasis placed on a rapid access to print.
Subseries. From 1989 to 2013, some 28 Texts and Dissertations were joint publications with what is now the Institute of Modern Language Research, presenting theses in German and Austrian studies as volumes 14 to 41 of the Bithell Series of Dissertations. Titles were dual-numbered, so that for example T&D 68 is the same book as BSD 31. Rights in these titles are jointly held by MHRA and IMLR.
Proposals. The series has now closed, but books developed from doctoral theses are warmly welcomed across the range of our Legenda series. The Bithell Series of Dissertations continues to publish under the aegis of the Institute of Modern Language Research: see this page at the IMLR website for details.

History. As one of MHRA's original pair of book series, T&D published slowly but steadily from 1970 to 2005, when the acquisition of Legenda gave MHRA greater capacity for book publishing. This enabled a rapid expansion, so that one third of the entire T&D list appeared in the final decade, 2005-15. The Bithell series was particularly active, with Ritchie Robertson as convenor: he continues this work as general editor of our series Germanic Literatures. Volumes 92, 94 and 98, apparently missing from the roster of titles, were originally edited for T&D but transferred to Legenda when the series closed: books by Caroline Ings-Chambers (92), Rhian Atkin (94), and Andrea Gullotta (98).
