The MHRA can draw on editorial expertise unrivalled outside the commercial publishing houses. This not only allows the Association to produce publications of world-class standard, but has also enabled it to become an internationally respected arbiter of written style and presentation, through the medium of its Style Guide (previously the Style Book).
This guide is integral to many postgraduate research methodology training programmes and most MA and PhD dissertations in the humanities produced in the UK and Ireland follow its guidelines. Undergraduate students are also widely encouraged to follow its conventions.
The MHRA has set considerable store by it commitment to update the guide in line with changes in writing and publishing practices. The latest, comprehensive revisions, which take full account of electronic media, will ensure that it remains the definitive style guide, outside the US, for academics and students writing in English. As a service to scholarship, this new edition is now available free online.
