Support for Scholarly Editions and Reference Works

The MHRA provides an invaluable service to scholarship in the modern humanities by supporting the production of major editions and works of reference that lay foundations for future scholarly work, but which, by their nature, are both labour-intensive and unable to be financially self-supporting.

Support is provided in two ways, through the Research Associateships scheme, which funds the work of a research assistant for a year, and through the Publications Fund, which helps publishers to cover the initial outlay for works with a short print-run and a limited market.

The MHRA itself publishes the instalments of two major ongoing bibliographical projects, The Annual Bibliography of English Language and Literature and the critical bibliography The Year's Work in Modern Languages Studies.
